Novelly Is Now Publishing Original Fiction

We built Novelly because the way we find books was broken.

Goodreads spoils the books before you open them. BookTok pushes whatever the algorithm rewards this week. Amazon's recommendations push whatever has the highest margin. None of it is built around what readers actually want, which is the feeling of being handed a book by a friend who knows you and says, "trust me."

So we made the discovery part. Swipe through 82,000 books, all of them described without spoilers, none of them ranked by what an advertiser paid for. That part works. Tens of thousands of readers have found their next favorite book that way.

Today we are adding the next part.

Novelly is now an original fiction publisher

Starting now, Novelly publishes original serialized fiction inside the app. Stories you cannot read anywhere else. New episodes dropping on a fixed weekly cadence. No algorithm pressure. No ads. No paywalls hiding the first episode.

If you have a Novelly account, the new Fiction tab is already in your bottom nav. If you don't, you can read the first episode of our launch serial without signing up at all.

Why we are doing this

The reading slump is the most common request we hear. A reader finishes a book, loves it, and then sits on the couch trying to start the next one. They open three apps. They scroll three feeds. Nothing fits. The book they want does not exist on the shelf in front of them.

Discovery solves one half of that problem. We can hand you a book you will love. But sometimes you do not want a book. You want a story you can follow. Something that gives you a piece every Monday and a piece every Thursday, the way television used to feel before everyone started dumping ten hours of content at once.

Serialized fiction fits that gap. Webtoon proved it for comics. Royal Road proved it for fantasy. Wattpad proved that readers will follow a story across years if the writer keeps showing up. We are betting that the same model works for a different shelf. Romance, comedy, drama, the kind of stories that read like a season of television rather than an endless feed.

How it works

Every Novelly Original serial is structured as a season. A fixed number of episodes, a fixed release schedule, a clear ending. We are not writing forever-stories. We are writing seasons, and we are writing them all the way to the last page before the first episode goes live.

That matters because it means the writing can be planned, not improvised under pressure. The pacing is built in. Every episode is calibrated to land at a specific moment in the arc. Episode 1 is the hook. Episode 4 is the breath. Episode 5 is the turn. The shape of a season is something we believe in, and we are protecting it.

A few things you will notice:

  • The first episode is always free and public. You do not need an account to read it. You do not need to sign up to share it.
  • The Reader (free) tier follows one serial. Get notified when new episodes drop, save your place, see the schedule.
  • Reader Plus follows unlimited serials and unlocks binge mode. Future-scheduled episodes are readable now if you have a Plus subscription. The schedule is for everyone else.
  • No ads. No tracking pixels. Same promise we make on the discovery side applies here.
  • No spoilers in any description. This one is the core promise of Novelly, and we are not breaking it for our own work.

What's first

Our first serial is The Quiet Acquisition. Eight episodes, releasing twice a week. Workplace romance, written in the spirit of the K-drama school of comedy. Quinn Reyes built her marketing agency from the ground up. Hayes Caldwell is the CEO who just bought it. They have actually met before, three years ago, at a gala she should not have been at, under a name that was not hers. She did not show up to brunch.

Episodes 1 through 3 are live now. All three are free to read without an account.

The remaining five episodes drop every Tuesday through June 23, when the season ends.

What comes after

We have a second serial in the writers' room and a third on the whiteboard. Different shelf, same approach. Planned seasons. Honest characters. A schedule you can count on.

If you want a recommendation engine that treats you like a person and a publisher that respects your time, that is what we are trying to build.

Open the Fiction tab in the app, or read the first episode of The Quiet Acquisition free at novelly.app/serials.

See you on Tuesday.
